Langtang Lirung Expedition – 30-Day Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Day 2
Rest day in Kathmandu. Climbing permit formalities and purchase of materials and food needed for the expedition.

Day 3
Transfer from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi (1,500 m) by bus. The road conditions are often poor and may be affected by landslides, sometimes requiring short walks between sections of the route.

Day 4
From Syabru Besi, the trail enters the jungle. By the end of the day, we will reach Lama Hotel (2,748 m).

Day 5
We hike up to Langtang Village (3,500 m). The valley becomes narrower and steeper as we exit the forest.

Day 6
Hike to Langtang Lirung Base Camp (4,300 m), located on the right bank of a large glacier, in a small grassy moraine valley. With yaks often grazing around the tents, the atmosphere is pleasantly rural.

Day 7
Rest day at Base Camp. We will set up camp and prepare the equipment for the climb.

Days 8–25
Acclimatization, transportation of equipment, setting up high camps, and summit attempt.
We begin transporting gear to the advanced camp, located at the base of a steep couloir. This couloir must be equipped with fixed ropes to ensure a safe descent from the ridge above. The ridge starts off rocky and challenging but eventually becomes snow-covered and resembles the Kuffner Ridge on Mont Maudit. At the beginning of the snowy section, we will establish another camp for the final summit push.
Although the climb does not involve extreme technical difficulties, it is by no means straightforward. It is a rarely attempted peak, so we must arrive at Base Camp with the right mindset—open, prepared, and adaptable.

Day 26
Descent from Base Camp to Lama Hotel.

Day 27
Descent from Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi.

Day 28
Return by bus from Syabru Besi to Kathmandu.

Day 29
Rest day in Kathmandu.

Day 30
Departure from Kathmandu.
