Trip Outline

Bhaktapur Durbar Square

  • What to see: Another ancient city near Kathmandu, Bhaktapur is known for its preserved medieval architecture, cobbled streets, and stunning temples like Vatsala Temple and 55-Window Palace.
  • Don’t miss: The famous "Yak and Yeti" pagoda and the rich cultural atmosphere of the city.

  • Boudhanath Stupa

  • What to see: Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest in the world and a major pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists. The area is surrounded by Tibetan shops, monasteries, and restaurants.
  • Don’t miss: Circumambulating the stupa and spinning the prayer wheels

  • Patan Durbar Square

  • What to see: Located in the city of Patan (which is near Kathmandu), Patan Durbar Square is an architectural masterpiece, filled with Hindu temples, shrines, and the famous Patan Museum.
  • Don’t miss: The golden temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar) and the Mahabouddha Temple

  • Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple)

    • What to see: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an ancient stupa perched atop a hill offering panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. It is home to monkeys, hence the name "Monkey Temple." The stupa is surrounded by prayer wheels and smaller shrines.

    Pashupatinath Temple

  • What to see: One of the holiest temples for Hindus, Pashupatinath is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located along the Bagmati River, it features beautiful architecture, ghats, and cremation sites where Hindu rituals are performed.

  • Kathmandu Durbar Square
